How long have you been doing that for?
I started in 2005, so 17 years now.
A lot of change during that period.
I deal with a lot of retirees, so dividend stocks are completely central to that discussion.
Yeah, right in the wheelhouse, as the saying would go.
Yes.
It's a short answer, but I mean, we work on, I think I've said on the investors podcast a few times, we work on this very basic assumption that a balanced portfolio, so broadly balanced between growth and defensive assets, you can expect 5% per annum.
And that's probably changed a lot in the last 12 months alone.
So term deposit rates have increased, dividend yields, everything is kind of increasing significantly.
No, not at all.
So the premise of or the way we tend to build portfolios and the people we build portfolios for are generally retirees or those nearing retirement or want a passive income.
And the key there is if you're going to have that passive income, it needs multiple sources of return or income.
You don't want it all to be from, say, the banking sector or the resources sector or just from shares in general.
So you split across asset classes.
You want to know the income's coming regardless of what's going on elsewhere in the economy and in the market.
It's key.
