And his friend's wife says to him, oh, you should have him read the manuscript.
And he goes, oh, what's that?
Anyway, he goes off to bed that night.
And he reads the manuscript.
And it's again set in the first person.
So you have a framework, a narrator within a narrator.
And it's about a guy who goes off to archive the library of a big chateau up in the mountains.
And it's cut off from everywhere.
He goes up and he's looking forward to it.
The house is full of mirrors.
I don't want to give this story away because it is one of the scariest, most extraordinary, beautifully written ghost stories I've ever read.
But he goes up there and the first evening, I can tell this much, he's sitting in a chair and he's been logging all the books for their value.
It's snowing outside.
It's just him in this huge chateau, but he's got the company of a dog and there's a parrot there and there's also a cat.
He's by the fire, and he's having his first drink of the evening.
And in the mirror, he sees the door to the room, and the reflection is open.
And he turns around, and the door is actually shut.
And he goes back to the reflection.
It starts to open even more, and he looks back.
