So, I mean, there are general guidelines for exercise and
surprisingly that they actually, you know, if you've been diagnosed with cancer, they aren't that different to if you're just a regular healthy person.
So the guidelines say that you should do about 150 minutes a week of moderate sort of intensity cardiovascular exercise.
So how we can sort of think of that is, um, you know, if you're doing,
something like walking or cycling, swimming, um, rowing, um, you should be going at a pace where you're getting a little bit out of breath.
Maybe you can hold a conversation.
Uh, you might not be able to sing, but you, you should be noticing that you're breathing a little bit heavier than you would have otherwise been.
Um, on top of that, uh, you should also be doing some strength training again, you know, muscle is quite important, um, to help you get through treatments.
Um,
If we're thinking of a surgery, people often lose quite a bit of muscle after surgery as well.
So, I mean, I often tell patients it's almost like you want to be a bodybuilder before you go into your surgery.
You want to build as much muscle as you can.
But also, you know, I know there's a bit of a high rocks trend at the moment and having good cardiovascular fitness will help you get through that surgery quite well as well.
So it's a bit of both, a bit of the cardio and the strength training is really, really important for most people.
Yeah, I mean, I think if you're struggling with your mental health, you're going to be struggling to come in for our sessions in particular.
You're probably not going to be eating as well either.
You know, when you're struggling with your mental health, it can be quite difficult to even get out of bed.
And if you're thinking of, you know, trying to get through treatment, bedrest is like the worst thing you can be doing.
So,
I think it may even be the most important element of prehab, having good mental health so you can sort of engage in these other healthy lifestyles to sort of get you through.
