But leadership is something that small towns die from lack of.
It's just from lack of leadership.
And so about 14 years ago or so, my wife and I decided that we should do something that would enable people to become better leaders.
And in a small town, you can become a leader at a very young age if you want, because everybody else will just push it off to you if you're willing to take that mantle.
So one of the things that we decided to do was to start a leadership course program at West Texas A&M University, which is part of the A&M system.
It's got between 9,000 and 10,000 students.
It's a regional university about 80 miles from my home.
And we got to help design the course.
We get to pour into it every year, every semester.
We spend, oh, six to 10 days a year with these students in addition to that.
And one of the things that we do is we work really hard on creating conflict.
Because young people have a real hard time with conflict.
They have a hard time with personal, interpersonal relationships.
So we teach more soft skills than leadership theory.
And they learn how to give back and how to be philanthropists.
And we select 50 kids, 25 juniors and 25 seniors.
It's a very competitive program.
The people who are in the program get to decide who's going to be in it.
So it's a pass-fail for them.
They're ranked by how they grade out and do.
