That's simplifying it, definitely.
I think the other thing that you want to look at is whether or not by putting it in the stock market, that allows you to have an additional passive income stream that you wouldn't have otherwise had before.
In the
calculator that we've built.
We've included something where you can say, I want to draw X amount of dollars from this pool of investment every year, and then see how the investment continues if you do, or if you don't draw that.
Now in our thirties, we may not need that, but in our fifties, it might mean the difference between stopping work altogether, you know,
So I'm going down to two or three days.
Yeah.
I think the main thing is to recognize that where the money comes from is not always equal.
there is a tax event when you receive money through an inheritance or a separation or whatever it means, not gambling like Bryce.
Not true.
How the money comes to you will have a tax event.
So using an example of a million dollar share portfolio that gets inherited.
Now, a lot of people may not think about this, but those shares, unless they're pre-CGT,
when they are sold, will have a capital gains event.
So the amount that you inherit in shares in total, if you get a million dollars, right, whether or not you sell those shares to realise the capital and pay off your mortgage,
or whether or not you keep some of them, or perhaps a hybrid of the two where you slowly sell them down, manage your capital gains throughout the years, and then pay off your mortgage that way, will have a quite considerable net difference in outcome.
And this is why we like to tell people to talk about what's in their will and actually think about how they're allocating.
So for example, you two are my children, little equity and little mate.
um and and i own a million dollar house and i own a million dollars in cba shares right i'm going to say yeah bryce little equity you get the cba shares and when you get the house well i've lived in that house so it's cgt free so those asset values are not the same but when most people put their will together they might be quite specific or they might say oh well i'm going to give this much to this person and this much to this person
