So the effect, the comparison here to make them exclusive is just taking a chunk of that money and wiping the mortgage.
As we know, that gives you more cashflow, but it doesn't really give you any compounding growth additionally on that.
So the compounding growth comes from the reinvestment then of that cashflow.
So it depends on your circumstances.
That's the case regardless of whether you receive an inheritance.
But no, I'll challenge that because if you stopped investing, took all your money out of the market and put 100% of your surplus cash flow into your mortgage, you would pay it off faster.
Yeah.
But not tomorrow.
But very soon.
But do you know what I mean?
Like on a rate of payoff, right?
I know what you're saying.
You accelerate it.
And that will give you the security that you want, right?
But it's not going to give you the long-term compounding vehicle that you're after.
Mm-hmm.
Because all that happens if you do that and in 10 years you've paid off your mortgage, well, great, you've got a non-income producing asset and a zero balance in other compounding assets outside of super.
So you probably have to keep working for another 15, 20 years.
And that's not really the goal for a lot of the people that we're working with and talking about.
But yes, paying off your mortgage or at least articulating what the inheritance does for you, it gives you freedom of choice to pay off the mortgage at an earlier stage if you choose to do it.
