Representative Vern Buchanan will not be seeking re-election this coming November.
Buchanan represents Florida's 16th congressional district, including areas south of Tampa towards Bradenton and east of Sarasota.
Buchanan was expected to run again this year and even already secured an endorsement from President Trump.
He is 74 years old and was first elected to Congress in 2006.
Buchanan is the second Florida Republican congressman to announce retirement this month.
Representative Neil Dunn of the Florida Panhandle will also not seek a new term.

A new mother and father in Florida who conceived via in vitro fertilization are suing their doctor and their clinic after learning the baby born to them is not genetically theirs.
The couple alleges Dr. Milton McNichol and Fertility Center of Orlando implanted the wrong embryo, something the couple only realized after delivering the baby and noticing the child was of a different ethnicity.
