This has got an old zoning when there were some different plans for the area.
Council Member Mayfield, this was her district when
Charlotte Premium Outlets came through and kind of changed the tone for the area.
And so we're left with one of the last pieces of the puzzle that is owned by one of the original landowners.
And so the petitioner has a planned proposal to kind of fill in that gap.
We've been in touch with Council Member Mayo throughout this process.
Many of y'all know the Steel Creek Residents Association, the umbrella organization down there.
They don't love multifamily.
I do think they're amigues with them.
They've kind of acknowledged, hey, if it's going to go somewhere, this would be a good place for it.
It is close to a lot of employment.
There are actually three schools, probably within a quarter mile of the site.
So we've been working closely with the design team on a development plan that works.
This is a constrained site.
It's got some topographical challenges that have kind of pushed us into a plan.
But we do have buffers on each side.
We do continue to work with the county in Parks and Recreation.
