I just was never interested in it.
It terrified me.
It always terrified me.
The idea of not having an exit is so scary to me.
Oh, yeah.
That's a whole separate thing.
Is that what it is?
Because that's my issue.
I agree.
I don't like the void.
That's the point.
Exactly.
It's the void.
It's that if I I'm OK in a small space, if I know that there's stuff out beyond my small space.
But this idea that I'm just out in a vacuum and not tethered to the only habitable rock at this point in time is just existentially crushing to me.
So I mentioned that President Kennedy canceled the next high altitude test.
Turns out that was just a pause because they wound up doing at least a few more what they considered successful high altitude tests later in 1962.
Ultimately, these crazy high altitude tests in combination with the Cuban Missile Crisis led
to the 1963 Partial Test Ban Treaty, which prohibited nuclear tests in space, underwater, and in the atmosphere.
And in 1967, the Outer Space Treaty followed, banning weapons of mass destruction from Earth's orbit and beyond.
