Um
I would say that it becomes a token when the the infant learns that a specific
more f uh you know, ph phonological unit has relations to some other phonological unit.
It's all it it b language
ultimately is completely determined by relations.
And so
it might be a very limited uh s uh uh you know initial map of these rela of the sort of the token relations, but as soon as it's relational
uh then we would say that that becomes discretized such that it's it i uh i that it's meaningful to say that these symbols have the relation to one another.
If it's just sounds bah ba ba ba ba ba, right, baba ba ba can't has no specific relation to any to the bo ga.
Um but maybe ba ba does or maybe ba, right, uh it i it could be a candidate uh in as it turns out in
English it doesn't.
Um but you know, da da
ends up being uh a a unit.
And what do we mean it's a unit?
It means
that that unit uh it has a discrete symbolic representation such that it
uh it has r relations to other units.
Um so I would say that uh when something becomes uh a d um it fits into the relational map is when we would call it it's discretized as a token.
