So I was 21 when we bought our first house and we had a lovely car and life was amazing.
In Kilcoman.
In Kilcoman, yeah.
So just outside Killarney.
So then I had my firstborn, my son, when I was 23.
So it came as a surprise, but it was all good.
We had the house and everything was, you know, great.
And then I suppose he's, you know, the way you're going out when you're younger and stuff like, and then the firstborn came along and people say, it takes the man a while now to settle down when the child comes.
And I was thinking, yeah, yeah, yeah.
But as time went on, I could see that the drinking was progressing, you know, and it was becoming problematic.
Do you know, it was interfering with our lives.
The parting was continuous.
There was a lot of kind of arguing between us and it just escalated over the years.
Then my second, my daughter, then when I was 26 and...
And by that time, I suppose deep down, I knew like there was a problem here.
But I thought, look, if I'm a better mother, if I'm a better partner, if I clean the house better, if I cook better meals, if I look better, if I did all these things better, I was going to just die.
saved the day and I was going it was my fault all this was happening and if I changed myself and I was just perfect at everything everything was going to be fine because I didn't want my children to come from a broken home and looking back now like we were in a broken home do you know what I mean but I just didn't want that stigma as I taught at the time I was like no I have to stick with it I have to make this work I'm so determined but sometimes it can work against you I was like this is going to work
And then I suppose my third girl, then I was my third child and I was 29.
And I just knew just things were so bad.
But I just kept it from everybody.
