Hi everyone.
Yes, exactly.
So the Women Wave Project is honestly one of the most inspiring story I came across while writing this issue.
Basically is six young women activists who decide to sail across the Atlantic Ocean like on an actual sailboat to get to the COP thirty, the UN climate conference that took place in Belem, Brazil.
And the reason they did that instead of just hopping on a plane is really symbolic.
Most of them had been avoiding flying for years as a personal stance on climate, but that also knew they wanted to make a
statement like the Junior Ne itself had to mean something.
So they spent nearly a year organizing everything, finding the boat, raising funds, doing all the paperwork, and eventually six activists while ve with very little sailing experience, set off from Saint Azer, stop in the Canary Islands, and then cross the Atlantic.
Over a month at sea,
total.
The boat they used was actually a legendary racing yacht from the eighties, which is kinda cool.
But beyond this
adventure side of it.
What really struck me is why they did it as an all female crew.
They wanted to highlight the connection between feminism and climate justice.
Because according to the UN, eighty percent of people displaced by climate change are women and girls.
And they also wanted to show that women exist in sailing space.
Because honestly that world is very
male dominated.
So yeah, it's activism, it's sisterhood, it's a political statement, all wrapped into one sailing trip.
