My name is Elizabeth Weiss.
I'm a physical anthropologist.
I'm retired from San Jose State University.
The oldest remains that I have ever looked at were about 2 million years old.
One of our earliest finds of Homo habilis is not a Homo habilis at all, but a relative of Lucy.
Kennewick Man was most closely linked genetically to the indigenous peoples of South America, not to where he was found.

So my name is Elizabeth Weiss.
I'm a physical anthropologist.
I'm retired from San Jose State University.
And my area of research has been looking at reconstructing past lives, mainly of Native Americans, pre-contact peoples of the Americas.
and using skeletal remains to tell us what their lives were like.
And that includes activity, what they were doing, but also diseases they had, their interactions with each other, whether they were peaceful interactions or not, and just trying to figure out how to best tell their story.
Well, one of the things that you find in looking at skeletal remains is that, you know, there's each of the people that you're looking at are individuals.
And so you'll have unique individuals that just grab your attention.
And so in my own research, you know, I had kind of three types of research.
One was like trying to explain bone biology, like why.
Why do we get certain diseases of the bones like arthritis?
How does that differ from in the past from today?
