at the ends of our long bones and even at the ends of our long bones of our feet.

So you have a little growth plate and then you have a cap, a bone cap called the epiphysis.

And so when you're growing, that growth plate is growing and attaching more bone to the shaft and eventually it fuses and that becomes not cartilage but all bone and then you stop growing.

And so what I was looking at was a pattern of these growth plates to figure out whether this possibly homo habilis foot was an adult with arthritis, which is what it looked like to me, or a child with an injury.

And the growth plate looks like it was an adult.

And if that's the case, then it's not a Homo habilis foot, but a robust Australopithecine foot.

And they've accidentally merged two skeletons because they were so close in the...

together physically on the site.

So I actually think that one of our earliest finds of Homo habilis is not a Homo habilis at all, but a relative of Lucy, Australopithecine.

A little controversial.

Controversial, there you go.

Yeah, sure.

And yeah, there's questions.

I'm sure that there's still a lot of debate about the issue.

But what's interesting about that study, in addition to looking at it from the human evolutionary perspective, is that the research that I did on the growth aspect

The same pattern of growth is found in all humans.

And so you can now look at a forensic case with a foot and compare that to the foot from 2 million years ago, and you'll see the same growth pattern.

So that's the oldest I've looked at.

But most of my research has been on Native American remains.

First, the Canadian remains that I've talked about, but not only indigenous peoples.
