So for example, the fifth graders, prepubescent, let's have a conversation about that that is different than talking about elite women in the Olympics.
So we're seeing a lot of these really blanket bans, and those bans are doing harm to trans athletes because it's showing them you don't exist, you don't deserve to exist, you can't come out, it's not safe.
So many of these athletes said at some point, I could tell something about me was different.
I wasn't sure what...
But the difference felt dangerous.
So when I go back to these high school students who were able to tell me who they were, and it was a joy and an honor to believe them.
A lot of these folks said, you know, in part of their coming out story, there was ample time where they didn't because it felt dangerous.
And that's really, really hard.
So how sports could be a place where the arena is safe to be a body moving, to be an athlete safe.
to belong, to feel safe.
And right now, because of the bans, it's doing the opposite of that.
We work with this master untruth and we break it down into parts.
So what we're seeing in the media, well, it's GOP policymakers through the media are saying that the trans athletes are coming in droves.
They're not.
Less than 1%.
Significantly less than 1%.
And it's dropping.
Trans kids aren't
opting into sport okay so less than one percent they're not coming in droves they're coming in droves to steal your medals also not happening just not happening so there's a section on is it fair which is a great question and I want to dive into it I love that question is it fair but we have to have a more nuanced and complex conversation about it and then you know to do harm that section is really hard to write because I know these trans athletes they're not harmful people and it's so icky that we're saying that they are
When the people who are doing harm are getting off.
