And there's two main groups at the center of this controversy.

They're called Fit for the Kingdom and the Prodigal Sons.

They're both men's only Christian groups.

And they've been really mobilizing their supporter base to basically speak out against the use of this venue.

They mainly took umbrage with the fact that Divine Playhouse was using religious imagery in their promotional materials and that the performers were evoking religious imagery as well.

So an example that they pointed to is there was performers dressed as nuns that were men

which famously nuns can't be men under the Catholic faith.

And within a week, the landlord's lawyers reached out to Kat and the team at Heaps Gay issuing a breach notice, and they basically said they could no longer use the venue because they were engaging in, quote, offensive trade.

They said it was a mockery of Christianity.

I mean, so many things have happened.

I think the main impact or the broader impact is it's ignited this kind of culture war where you've got these two groups wanting completely separate things.

So as I mentioned up top, there's this one group who has said that their faith is being mocked.

And on the other hand, there's this other group that are saying that they're having their freedom of expression or their artistic expression stifled by this move from this landlord.

I think the best example of this is the fact that there's two petitions online right now that are asking for completely separate things.

One is to keep it closed.

One is to reopen it.

And they're both gaining a lot of traction.

I think we should start with the one that's against the venue.

It's gathered over 6,000 signatures at the time of recording, and they've taken issue with the fact that Divine Playhouse received a grant from the government.

When it was being set up, it received a $100,000 creative arts grant.
