But what we're talking about here is in regards to imports on products that have been made using modern slavery overseas. matched

So rather than it occurring on our soil, it's about what's happening overseas and how we're clamping down on that. matched

So I mean, the act that I talked about earlier, the Modern Slavery Act, it is generally well received internationally, but it has had its criticism around the fact that it doesn't have any penalties on companies that import products that have been made using modern slavery. matched

But the government has actually just announced a suite of changes to try to fix that. matched

So this came through, it would have been almost two weeks ago now that we got the announcement. matched

I immediately thought, has this been put into place because Trump's been threatening these modern slavery tariffs? matched

Yeah, so he announced the tariffs in June, then in July, so it would have been only a few weeks later, Australia comes out and says, we're making all these reforms to our modern slavery laws. matched

And then we've had this update last week where the tariffs still being imposed anyways. matched

So I'll talk you through the reforms. matched

Basically, they wanted to make it a criminal offence for companies with revenue over $100 million who fail to prevent modern slavery in their supply chains. matched

Yes, the largest businesses. matched

So they're starting there because I think it's easier for them to track that and use that as a starting point. matched

But I have to assume with what's going on with the global conversation right now that we could see that be extended to smaller businesses. matched

They haven't explicitly said that that's why they brought those changes in. matched

However, they have been very critical of Trump for imposing the tariffs and accusing Australia of engaging in modern slavery practices. matched

Our Trade Minister, Don Farrell, he called it completely unjustified. matched

And when they were first announced almost a month ago, Albanese said that Australia has robust, comprehensive and world-leading legislation on forced labour practices. matched

Yeah, there's not a lot that can happen in the short term. matched
