Number one, I think she's 1,000% right.
Issues like this bring up the historical trauma that is associated with the Black culture, Black community, and particularly in the South, and particularly in Mississippi.
And we should be able to express that feeling freely.
We should be able to express that this is triggering for us.
Now, here's what's very, very important.
And when I say that we have to be able to access and trigger our compassion, that is the best of us.
And I'm talking specifically about the Wells family.
But I'm also talking to the non-Black community, referring to the Black community.
And this is where I think the pain becomes really significant.
If I say...
this is triggering the racial history that we know lives within my body actually there's actually research about this like it lives within my body it's triggering it's it's is this what eckhart tolle calls the emotional pain body something yes absolutely um so we know that this exists and here's where we start having problems and the problems grow from here
if i say that online someone who is not a member of the black community is going to say something like you're playing the race card you are playing the victim instead of allowing themselves to learn what the black experience has been like
We have to understand this very basic premise, and that is two things can be true at the same time.
Because what happens, this is exactly what happens.
Someone from Gulf Shores, Mississippi, a Black person will say, this is a racist community, I've experienced racism, and this circumstance is triggering me in a racial way.
And a non-Black person will say, I'm from there and it's not racial at all.
And I'm like, well, yeah, it's not racial because you're wearing the wrong uniform to experience it.
So two things can be true at the same time.
My lived experience is that it is very racial in that particular area.
Your lived experience is it's not because you don't have the history and you don't have the uniform that I have that brings those things about.
