This is our lived experience and we expect you to validate it.
What typically happens is it gets invalidated and now we're online arguing about is there racism or is there not?
And you know what?
Both are true because if you were an affluent white person living in Southern Mississippi, you probably never experienced racism.
So thus Southern Mississippi was not racist to you.
But if you're a black person and you were born to share croppers, you probably experienced racism every single day of your life.
So thus Southern Mississippi is a racial community and we need to start understanding
The most compassionate thing I can do is validate your lived experience because when I validate your lived experience, I'm validating your very humanness.
And that is what this moment calls for, not debates.
I'm not willing to debate anybody whether or not racism exists.
I want you to treat me like a human and understand
that my lived experience may be different from yours, but it is valid.
That's the problem here.
So whoever asked that question, brought up that comment, thank you.
Sorry, went a little bit of a passionate soapbox, but that to me is the answer here.
Stop arguing about whether or not racism exists and just say to people, wow,
Your lived experience is different from mine because we're a different gender, different level of affluence, different race, different level of fitness and attractiveness.
Do you think someone who weighs 300 pounds has the same lived experience as someone walking around with a six pack?
No, the lived experiences are different, but equally valid.
