Uh that that's all that's all there is to be said.
Yes.
I mean I th I I cannot claim that I would not have an emotional reaction.
But I think as we've been I think fear emotions are a kind of intuition.
I do not generally trust intuitions in this kind of situation.
So I I am I have no doubt that in that situation I would be upset and I would feel fear.
But at the same time I hope that my my
philosophical part of my mind would be coveted by the knowledge that in fact I I still exist and will go on existing in just the same way as I always would.
In order to say what is rational, you know, rationality doesn't tell us what we should care about, in my opinion.
Rationality tells us how to get the things that we care about.
Um, so for you know, evolutionary and emotional reasons, I do care about my future self.
Um and you know, having established that, I can then go and ask, you know, what are steps I should take now that are going to, you know, help my future self flourish, and rationality will help me help me decide what those steps are.
But I don't think
I don't think it's it's the job of rationality to tell me whether or not I should care about my future self.
You know, we ha you have to decide the goal first and then you can go and ask what does rationality say I should do to achieve the goal.
Yes.
I think because uh this is being presented as a as death.
And I think we all have very strong emotional associations with the idea of death.
So what if they just said it's not death?
I mean, I think it would be difficult to present this in a way that it wouldn't sound like death.
