Oh, OK.

My villain this week is the iPhone.

I wrote about this amazing research that came out earlier this week from an economist at Middlebury College in Vermont named Caitlin Myers.

And she looked at the introduction of the iPhone back in 2007.

The upshot of the report is that.

the iPhone contributed to the decline in the fertility rate that we're seeing in the U.S.

And that's happening around the world right now.

Birth rates are falling.

And economists and researchers have been sort of scrambling to figure out what's causing this.

First, people thought it was the financial crisis.

But the economy came back and the birth rate never did.

So it's been this just big puzzle.

And they engineered this really interesting study where they looked at when the iPhone first came out, it was only on a single network, AT&T.

So they sort of compared areas of the country with AT&T to those without, and they saw that the birth rate declined much more rapidly in areas of the country with AT&T or that had the iPhone network.

So that's going to be my pick for villain.

And it's not just the iPhone, we should say.

It's, you know, smartphones in general.

This was just a good way of looking at it.
