for Mother's Day.
Precious time with my children fills me with so much joy.
I can't imagine how these selfish comments have made anyone feel who's trying to start a family.
Try being a single parent and waking up to nothing.
And then the final one was entitled twats.
And I was like, happy Mother's Day to me.
Really good points.
But, I mean, it's a couple of things at once.
On the one hand, do I look at myself most days and think, honey, you could shut the fuck up a little bit and just not say that thing?
Yes.
However, I will say there is no day more fraught than Mother's Day because...
women are expected to have a certain martyrdom to do with motherhood.
So of course you shouldn't expect anything.
Gifts, oh, you want a gift?
You have the greatest gift of all, your child.
We would never say that to a man.
Then there's also the added weight, which I completely get,
Of acknowledging all kinds of women and what their relationship with motherhood might be.
Women who are wanting to become mothers, who have lost their mothers, who have really hard relationships with their mothers, all of that.
But I do think it's interesting that Father's Day doesn't come with any of that complexity.
