And I think the Greek does support the possibility they might be feeling pretty uncomfortable.
And so I wanted that ambiguity to be a legible one in the translation.
Well, the golden staff that Odysseus uses has it.
The various different staffs that the leaders in the Iliad use each have different kinds of power.
But the fact that he uses this golden staff as the symbol of royal, I've got more money, and obviously it's a pre-money society.

So hard to answer because it's hard to sum everything up.
I mean, I think the combination of these poems are so distant in so many ways.
I like what you said about the alienness of the form.
I mean, this is not TV.
This is not novels.
This is something very, very alien, and alien storytelling techniques plunging you into a very alien social world.
I mean, actually, the social world of the Garden of Eden is also quite alien in certain ways, as is the society of Milton's Hell.
But it takes you somewhere very, very strange, and yet it also gives you enough that you can...
realize I can inhabit this very, very strange world.
And I think in a time when things are changing so very, very much, it is terrifying how much change there is in the world.
Having a sense of humanity, we can imagine what is the whole human society, or maybe the whole human and divine society.
