We are where it's at.

Oh, yeah, this is a very sensual poem and it's tender, it's beautiful.

It's by a poet called Edwin Morgan.

He died in 2010 and he was the first poet laureate of Scotland and he held the position of Scottish macker.

I love that title.

It's the national poet of Scotland.

But this is about sitting on steps and it's a really hot summer's day and he's sharing strawberries with his lover.

And it's very, very beautiful.

So also, you know, I'm looking at it on the page here, but there's no punctuation.

And I love the way it just flows and it just gives it a lovely kind of sensual quality.

Exactly.

So anybody in Wexford this morning will definitely identify with this.

It's called Strawberries and it was written in 1968.

There were never strawberries like the one we had that sultry afternoon, sitting on the step of the open French window, facing each other, your knees held in mine, the blue plates in our laps, the strawberries glistening in the hot sunlight.

We dipped them in sugar, looking at each other, not hurrying the feast for one to come, the empty plates laid on the stone together with the two forks crossed.

And I bent towards you, sweet in that air in my arms, abandoned like a child from your eager mouth, the taste of strawberries in my memory.

Lean back again.

Let me love you.

Let the sun beat on our forgetfulness, one hour of all the intense heat and the summer lightning on the Kilpatrick Hills.

Let the storm wash the plates.
