Uh, he quotes chapter eight when he says that this is the conflict, the siege for the soul is first set up right there in chapter eight when Harry and Hermione meet for the first time.
And, uh, Harry says, I'd like you to help me to take over the universe.
And Hermione finished her drink, lowered her in the can and said, no, thank you.
I'm not evil.
i just such plain stark terms not you don't need subtlety and then your audience will still miss it for more than a decade because we're not that smart
And then he says, the fight really begins in earnest in Chapter 16, where Quirrell, in the Defense Against Dark Arts first class, tells Hermione to cast a stunner on somebody.
And if she doesn't, she will lose a Quirrell point.
And she refuses.
And then, you know, she loses the Quirrell point.
She loses that battle.
And Quirrell says, if you cannot give and receive violence on the order of stubbing your toe, then you cannot defend yourself and will not pass defense.
Go rejoin your classmates.
And it says, Harry walks back to the Ravenclaw cluster.
Her face looked peaceful, and Harry, for some odd reason, wanted to start clapping, even though Professor Quirrell had been right.
And, like, that's... There's the fight right there, right?
On one hand, Professor Quirrell had been right!
He's so right!
He should have used violence and evil because you have to defend yourself.
But, like, on the other hand, was Hermione, who was at peace, and...
who he couldn't help but want to clap.
