Also, I think Eliezer thought he was writing a different kind of story.
I think it is entirely reasonable that everybody took the wrong thing away from it and it took this long for anyone to notice it because I don't think this was what Eliezer...
was intentionally going for it's just what came out because this is what was true inside of him and inside the greater rational meme space and uh that's what made it into the writing the true thing and uh since it's not what he was intentionally going for it was harder to find it right which is a valid criticism of the work
I wouldn't call that a criticism.
I think that I have much more come around to the idea that a lot of creating art is subconscious and to use a more poetic term, you know, a muse, a genius comes to you and you do your best to channel what is out there through your fingers or whatever it is that you're using to create the art.
But like you are a vessel for conveying it.
and you can be a better or worse conveying vessel but like it is not entirely you it is not your system one it is not your thinking deliberative knowing yourself system that is makes the good art uh that comes and if you didn't know exactly what you're channeling it's not your fault
No, totally.
12 10 11 ish years after finishing it and i think we'll probably do a proper reread at some point and go through it with this lens the whole time i think it's been more than eight years since i since i last listened to it or read through it and i'm gonna go through it again now awesome well uh maybe we can what we're gonna say
That reminds me, some people who have been listening to HP More on the Spotify playlist have contacted me about this particular problem, which I'm about to mention.
Spotify on the official playlist struck a few dozen episodes, starting with like episode 35 or 36 for using copyrighted music.
technically might be true some of it i used i used some copyright music in small snippets and oh fortuna you know who's losing the rights on that come on uh and i mean i used i used some things which are more modern than oh fortuna and you know there's like stuff overlaying it so you can't quite always make it out and it's usually just small pieces but technically they are correct i
On the one hand, this is a really easy problem to solve.
This has happened before where they send strikes and I'm like, nope, that was fair use because I do think it was fair use.
First of all, this work is a parody.
Second of all, I'm using small pieces of it.
Third of all, it's kind of obscured.
And they're like, oh, okay.
It's an automated process.
You just contest it and they're like, fine.
