that's the threshold at which stability is in a curlew population.

So for 100 pairs,

we are only, maximum, we are getting 50 birds, 50 fledglings back into the wild.

So we're adding another 60 to it.

So we're doubling the output of curlew into the Irish population.

And that has to be important.

And what really, really exciting me for us this year is that some of our head-started birds, we now have back on breeding grounds.

So head-started birds from previous years are now back on breeding grounds in Ireland, are now breeding successfully.

We have had head-started birds incubating eggs and hatching chicks.

And I mean, that's showing this works.

So we just need to do it a little bit more.

We're just very careful that we're not spending big amounts of time in and out of the pens.

We keep our feeding and our watering stations in the same areas.

We walk into the pen, sort of keep ourselves sort of nicely covered, do what we have to do as quickly as possible.

We can monitor birds remotely so we have our trail cameras up and we can look and make sure that there's still 10 in that pen, they're still all walking around.

So it's really, I mean, there's no way of having

no human impact.

But I mean, curlew in the wild would be used to seeing maybe a farmer go down a field or a fisherman land on an island or whatever.

So I mean, they're not completely averse to a human presence.

But we do certainly try to keep them as wild as possible.
