It's actually so close to the Women's World Cup.
And 2023 is so recent and the momentum that that team managed to gather behind them in terms of even playing at the Aviva after that tournament,
You suspected actually getting a win tonight.
That's the real sort of short-term impact of that, that people who were on the fence about coming on Saturday are actually going to come along.
Yeah, for sure.
You're back in action this weekend, yourself?
Is there a sense that the best young talent in the league are going to get their correct opportunities in the national team or where is that at the moment?
It is 4 o'clock kick off 4pm Sunday Shell's Bows Captain Pearl Slattery there of Shelbourne get down and see her play on Sunday Pearl great stuff this evening thanks a million for joining us on our co-commentary alongside Ben Symes for Poland vs Republic of Ireland great result for Carla Ward's side we'll chat to you again very soon
Yeah, it was, even by my standards, remarkably depressing.
I just went in search of a late pint to be fair.
I just wanted one.
I didn't want to go to any of the busy spots because I guess I just wanted a moment of solitude and reflection.
And the only place that I could find was this place with very bright white lights.
blaring electronic music and two Irish fans in there one who was like myself sitting on a stool staring into the middle distance and the other fan who had fallen asleep into his pints and it was a perfect vista really which summed up the evening where it had just begun to sink in uh you know they often said that you need to go to bed and wake up to realize that it isn't actually a dream and certainly getting out of bed here now to speak to you guys and listen to you there for the last couple of minutes
This is real and that's unfortunate.
I was slightly hoping that it was not going to be the reality because it was a complete sucker punch last night in so many ways.
that the republic of ireland had it won twice that they had the game won in the first half and then they had the penalty shootout one as well yes that i didn't really mind too much that they were shooting into the sort of ultras and all that i cared about when it came to the penalties was that ireland would get to go first that troy parrot would take the first penalty in the shootout that's the way they went
because if they got their noses in front then there'd be no coming back from it because I really did believe that the Republic of Ireland had the stronger goalkeeper but crucially the depth and penalty takers is what cost Ireland and Azaz and Alan Brown unfortunately were the two that would go on to miss I just really thought though that once they missed the first one that
that finally Ryan Manning would be able to breathe a sigh of relief and the fact that what happened in normal time would actually not matter at all and Ireland would be playing in a more important game next Tuesday.
So that's kind of the first thing that you come away from.
