And on those plaques, there's about 10 of them, is the name Amenhotep III, both on front and back.
They are not found anywhere else outside of Egypt except at Mycenae.
So there must have been connections of some sort
during that mid-14th century, which means Amenhotep III and Akhenaten would have known about the Mycenaeans.

So the Hittites are up in central Anatolia, modern-day Turkey.
They actually captured the whole thing.
They go all the way out to the west coast, to Troy, which we'll get to.
But they also come down to the south, the southeast, if you will, down into what is today northern Syria.
and even further down into, well, almost down to Lebanon, I would say.
The fault line, as you put it, between the Egyptians and the Hittites would have been at about the city of Kadesh.
And in fact, that's why they fight their famous battle there in about 1279 BC for control of the Levant.
The Egyptians want to push north of Kadesh.
Hittites want to push south of Kadesh.
Fight a major battle.
It's a draw.
And since it's a draw, they both claim they won, when in fact neither one did.
So we've got, as I mentioned, the Hittites and the Egyptians are the two greatest powers at that time, and they are duking the out for control of Canaan at that time.
So when eventually they sign a peace treaty, the Egyptian pharaoh seems to marry one of the Hittite princesses.
We may even have the Hittite king come on a visit to Egypt at that time.
