And yet Homer describes a boar's tusk helmet absolutely accurately.
So things like this, including the shields that they were using, an Achilles shield, the way it's described, is that actually Bronze Age?
Is it Iron Age?
And then, of course, you've got the famous catalog of ships, right, which you're referring to.
When Agamemnon says, jump, everybody says, sure, and how many ships do you want?
There is, in Book II of the Iliad, a catalog of ships where it says, Agamemnon brought this many ships, and Menelaus brought this many ships.
And that seems to be a true memory of the Bronze Age that was handed down
orally.
So as a historian, I go in and try and dissect what Homer is saying.
Yes, we can believe this.
No, this is probably, you know, epic poetry.
And I try and fish out the nuggets that we can use.
Yeah, absolutely.
And to me as well.
And it rings true.
We've got in the linear B text, like at Pylos, we have mentions of women from Asia Minor who are now slaves, and they must have been captured in raids or battles or small wars or whatever, much like the Trojan War.
