Back to the marijuana analogy.

How twisted is it that someone goes to prison for 40 years over pot, and now you can go to a weed shop every corner in Oklahoma, right?

But it's a very messy...

A complex story that was hard to weave together.

And I think it was the most challenging for us, certainly more challenging than Tiger King.

Well, the seed was planted really in my head when I read this book, The Lizard King in 2008.

And I tried to buy the rights from this author, Brian Christie, who wrote this incredible book, The Lizard King in 2008.

So that's almost 20 years ago.

I didn't start filming until 2014 with Josh Safdie.

And that was the beginning.

But Tiger King and other things got in the way.

So yeah, maybe six years if you were to condense that time.

Not just – like that would be too superficial.

There's too many fucked up people out there, Joe.

And people that have a story that's somewhere hidden in there.

So we cast a wide fucking net.

Like we filmed shark people and taxidermists and the guy that breeds the most –
