It's just like risk and variance there that I wouldn't be able to swallow.

So I get it from Milwaukee's standpoint.

From the Rays' standpoint, they have so much depth.

I just don't know if they had time to be creative and package some of that depth

to probably involve a third team.

You can't just throw eight prospects at the Tigers.

You have to consolidate it somehow.

And the Rays didn't seem willing to move Theo Gillen or Caden Bodine.

And I think those were non-starters for the Tigers.

And whether the Tigers pulled the trigger too soon, maybe could have scooped around a little bit more, I don't know.

But maybe people in the industry feel good that they allowed the first domino to fall as early as they did so everybody else could do their business now for the last two days.

Yeah, I think that it helps evaluate the deals and more than anything, illuminate what we think a lot of the thinking around the deals is and how when you see what the exchange is, how it can feel wrong or counterintuitive the way teams are valuing prospects and how significantly they seem to be doing so.

But the truth is that the marginal value, the surplus value of a good prospect, or just a prospect in general, even when you're baking into the way you value him, the possibility that he might not turn into anything or that he might fall short of your hopes and dreams, it's enormous.

The surplus value in the minor leagues overall, across all of baseball, it's in the several billions of dollars.

Just like the raise system, which we have at the very top, still, even after they traded multiple guys for Freddy Peralta, there's like approaching $700 million worth of surplus value.

And that's just the prospects who we have identified as being of interest to us collectively together.

And so, yeah, like when you start turning into a math equation, there's something anodyne and sort of like,

uh cold about it uh and you don't want to look at the players that way because ultimately the guys who stick around in the big leagues for very long there is something about them as people that has allowed them to do it it's not just their talent and it's not just like some math equation that has you know created a 10-year big league career but when you're looking at just like this pre-free agency window of time uh that you control the players for

everyone thinking in this way is for a change what the marginal like talent level of the marginal player I think has risen and teams really view there's the union cam and arrows of the world certainly and then there's this thick middle of guys where whether they have option years left or if they're in arbitration yet or not like

Everyone is sort of clumped together talent-wise in the middle.
