It seems counterproductive.
It seems like it's profit or value destroying.
So why are we doing it?
So this is a book about why this happens.
And then for those that are interested, how can it be prevented?
So many things.
It's similar to lean startup in this way.
A bunch of things that I found intuitive or counterintuitive, I thought were just like, well, sure, everybody knows this or thinks this.
And then I was really shocked to discover what the state of the art actually is and then what the research says.
So I'll give an example.
One thing that I've never quite understood, like there's a lot of governance best practices that we follow that go under the broad heading of shareholder primacy.
And it always seemed to me like those
Practices, like I would see this in big companies, even public companies.
I would ask people why, you know, your company's doing something stupid.
Why is it happening?
And they'd be like, well, that's the best practice, or because that's what shareholders want.
Like people would point to these practices as causing all these problems.
