For example, it presupposes that customers always want the lowest price.
It presupposes that paying employees worse will give you a lower price or a higher quality product.
It's presupposing that the quality of the product doesn't really matter and a bunch of other things.
Employee turnover is not a cost.
It's assuming that the toxic chemicals, the negative externalities that you cause don't matter, don't ever come back to bite you, don't show up on your balance sheet.

And the way you can prove that the people who think this way don't really believe it is you can take the same argument and apply it to CEO compensation.
Imagine someone said, look, we want to pay our CEO a hundred times the median wage of the same company, but we can't afford to do so.

Well, the company down the street, they might pay their CEO less and pass the savings on to consumers, and then we would be

But they are like, no, what are you talking about?
That's not right.
You have to pay a premium because CEO talent is the most important sketch.
You're like, oh, I see.
So sometimes you can get a business advantage from paying a premium wage.
How interesting that it applies in this situation, but not that situation.
Now look, we can still have the business strategy conversation about, well, you could be like, well, but CEOs are more important than workers or whatever.
