He was only 19, 20.

He was 19, I think, when he went to the World Cup in 1995, so he would have been 20 then.

Still a young guy and it was hard for him because he knew he was good enough to play those tests.

But until he got his knee fixed up, that was it, you know.

I actually told him we're in the perfect place for a broken knee.

He says, what do you mean?

I says, we're in Africa, mate.

That's where the knee grows.

Took him two days to get it.

The South Africans, they're awesome people.

You know, they're awesome people, but...

Things are going to go, they're going to do whatever they can off the paddock to help their Springbok team.

And when I say that, I mean buses will be turning up late.

For us, the big thing in our time was they had guys, we didn't know if they paid them or not, but there were guys in the car park.

So we put security on the hotel because people would just walk up to the doors and knock on the doors and have a conversation, you know.

So they ended up putting security around the hotel to stop people coming in.

And then they started getting guys to just go in the car parks and push the cars.

So you'd hear car alarms going all night long.

Just stuff like that.

And they ended up, the security guys pushed the perimeter out to the car parks because all night, and then they'd be driving up and down beside the hotels, beeping horns all night long.
