Wait, the Planet Money conference room?

These are very nearly the final prototypes.

But apparently we still have a gazillion small decisions to make.

Right.

So the day we got the news that the two big box retailers wanted our game was Monday, January 12th, exactly 36 days before the start of the Chinese lunar.

And then following the shutdown, it's even more weeks until all workers are back and factories are running full force.

We had the narrowest window.

And so.

Began one of the most frantic home stretches of a project I can remember.

Twenty-four hours to get the game files to China and a mad dash to handle a bunch of other tasks.

So many tasks we still have to get done.

Here we go.

Task one.

Contracts.

Like how much money will NPR slash planet money make off this thing?

Royalty deals, licensing deals.

For board games, that tends to be like three to seven percent of something called net revenue.

Yeah, yeah.

For one, we get a small guaranteed upfront fee.

But more importantly, our royalty percentage goes way up if our game is a runaway hit.
