it fundamentally changed the way work was in American factories.
At first, there was little or no productivity change.
There was little or no employment change because people were just kind of paving the cow paths.
They were redoing the same things they used to do, but now with electric motors and nothing fundamentally changed.
It took a lot of reinvention of those factories and ultimately the whole economy to unleash a big change.
And that reinvention meant eliminating millions of jobs and
It meant creating millions of jobs.
All of that in the case of electricity, like I said, took 20 to 30 years.
I don't expect it to take 20 to 30 years this time around, but it's not the kind of thing that happens in 20 to 30 months either.
It's something that plays out over a period of years.
I think we're in the early stages of that transformation now.
I have no doubt there's going to be a lot of disruption and a lot of jobs destroyed.
There's also going to be a lot of jobs created.
We're just in the earliest stages of that right now, but it's going to get bigger.
I can't speak for the economics profession as a whole.

I think over time, it'll become more and more obvious.

August of 2025.
