It was stealing every penny that people had.
And they were using a new technology to do it.
They were getting people to invest in cryptocurrency.
And when those people were reporting it to local law enforcement,
local law enforcement wasn't prepared to do that investigation because they didn't know how to trace cryptocurrency.
So while I was a prosecutor, I built a coalition and that coalition has done amazing work in educating ourselves about how to do this work and providing a community where people can share information.
What I saw was
it works when you build a community of can-do people together that want to do better.
And so when I retired, I wanted to build a similar community.
But when I was looking at the scamdemic, it was clear to me that there was a whole ecosystem of people that need to be included in that, starting from social media, telco, banking, financial institutions, payments, crypto, law enforcement,
Diplomacy, victim services, everybody who saw a piece of this needed to be talking because I think when this first started happening back in 2022, nobody understood what other people knew about it.
We needed to create a location where people could share information.
And that's Operation Shamrock.
The idea is to educate about what is happening, to mobilize a response to that, and to disrupt
the transnational organized crime that is responsible for stealing all of this money.
That's it.
It's easy.
We do it on Fridays only.
I'll tell you why, because this has happened to someone you know, and you don't even realize it yet.
That's how ubiquitous it is.
