This would have gone very differently for him.
On the flip side, the other way to think about it is he is still kind of working his way back.
How does this outing make you feel about what you expect to see going forward?
In that area, I thought it was actually pretty good.
The fastball velocity was significantly better than it was in his last outing.
He was coming out pumping 95 fairly consistently.
That's something he hasn't really done since returning.
He had 15 swing and misses in just four innings.
The slider, which was a pitch that was almost shelved in his first two outings, like less than 10% usage, he brought that back with great effect.
He struck out Mike Trout, that situation you mentioned where he had the two men on base and none out.
He escaped that.
Two of those strikeouts were both with the slider.
So the ability to make that pitcher a factor again was encouraging.
As I said, the swing and miss was encouraging.
The velocity was encouraging.
The stuff was there.
The issue was really the command.
It was the location.
And as he gets his feet under him after this abnormal start to the season, after the shoulder impingement, I'm inclined to believe that will come.
