It begins the events of the crucifixion narrative in Christian scripture and the Western tradition.

Concluding with Easter next Sunday, the name Palm Sunday refers to the greeting given to Jesus and his followers who were said to be carrying and waving palm fronds.

Orthodox Christians of varying Eastern rites will mark Palm Sunday next week and Easter the week following.
