I love going there in the middle of winter.

Dead of winter is so good.

And for years, what I would do is I would go there in December, January.

And just in, again, in the dead of winter, bitterly cold, I'd be in this one-room cabin and I'd have the cassette tapes of Archbishop Sheen's retreat he gave to priests in Ireland.

And I just let him teach me.

I let him take me on my retreat.

Now, I know this at Pachamon Terrace.

You're not supposed to bring any of that stuff.

This is kind of contraband.

You're supposed to just let the Lord speak to you through scripture.

But here we are in that retreat, which is so good.

The heart of it was this, that he said, I know this.

I know that you've been to your priest gathering, your clergy retreat, how many years?

I mean, if you've been ordained 40 years, you've been to 40 of these at least.

what's one thing you remember from any of them like nothing like it might have been helpful that day for some prayer which is great but what's what's what's anything you take away and he's like probably nothing so how about this how about this how about the fact that the whole heart of this retreat is my invitation to you to make a daily holy hour

Because this retreat is going to end in three days, four days, whatever it is.

But if you make a decision, a commitment to make a daily holy hour, then the fruits of this retreat will last your entire life and into eternity.

And that invitation was so powerful for me.

Again, I'm still growing in it.

That invitation is so powerful in the lives of so many people because it's not just about this moment, it's about doing this good thing over and over again and staying close to Jesus.
