But actually the other thing that drives me nuts is the lack of imagination.
You've got all these tall buildings that look identical from a distance.
You know, there's not even any imagination in the architecture.

I would agree with that.
I think we're probably sharing some criteria on what we think of as being great pubs.
In fact, all those ones you mentioned with the possible exception of the Crown and Kettle are...
quite odd places to walk into.
You walk into them and you haven't quite got your bearings, like Pever of the Peak.
Yeah, where are you?
It's like a little kind of, it's like in the name of the Rose, the library, you know, it's like this really weird wooden maze.
You've got to find where you get served and where you're going to sit.
Britain's Protection, you walk into that very shallow bar and you're kind of like, is this it?
Because actually you've got the rooms at the back.
These are all very old, idiosyncratic places.
What I really like about them is no TVs, because there's actually no space to do that.
You just haven't got the room to do it.
And so they're places that are just full of people doing what I like in pubs, which is people having a drink and chatting and socialising, which is, for me, the main purpose of a pub.
Yes, I'd agree with that.
Would I call it a pub?
