Hi, I'm Rob Goodman. This is The Pub Crawlers. We're in Manchester today, in my favourite Manchester pub, the Marble Arch Inn, with my two mates, Fenner and Suzanne. We talked about all manner of subjects. We talked about Suzanne growing up living above a pub. We talked about Fenner meeting Marky Smith in a Manchester pub. We even talked about Paris and the invention of the Bloody Mary. Anyway, let's go and have a look.

Fella, do you remember how we first met?
I think I do. I remember how I got introduced to you, which was I'd gone out.

And then I went out to the cinema with a guy off my course, went back to visit another friend of mine, and Ash... was in his room, absolutely hammered. Was he? Yeah. I don't remember who he is. And that's how I met Ash. But he was in a band and they were looking for a singer, and that was my dream job. And that's how I became friends with Ash, and then through Ash was how I met you. So it wasn't the same day? Because I introduced latterly.
So I was a second... Next day. I was like the... What's the word? The side dish to Ash. Yeah.
He was the drunken hors d'oeuvre.
Okay. Suzanne, I'm going to have to tell people who don't know that you and Fenner are actually married. I think the dynamic may actually come across.

You met Fenner, you thought he was great, and he started telling you about his friends. What did he tell you? How did he pitch me to you?

It's basically a collective name for our university chums. It's slightly cringy, but yeah, go on.
But very sweet. And so in the same way that Fenner has different groups of friends, you were kind of, seemed to be more part of him than any of his other friendship group. And Fenner being, obviously, an incredibly kind person, I thought, well, these must be quite good people. But you've all uniquely very different.
And so... Like Rice Krispies characters. Snap, Crackle, and indeed Pop.
Absolutely, yeah. And so there's always a bit of a fear about meeting people that means so much to somebody else, but...
I wanted more but never mind I wanted you to say he talked about me endlessly and the others they just came up in dispatches we're in the Marble Arch pub The Marble Arch Pub, which is my favourite pub in Manchester. Yeah, good question, though. It's a great question. I've asked it before. Because I think it's such a... It's so deeply pub. There's nothing superficial in here. It's not someone's coming and going, this is a great room, we can turn it into a pub. Well, you mean like I do sometimes? Well, like you do sometimes. Jeez. No, but I think everything about it just is, it's got that authentic, dated feel. Also that timeless element to it. You know, your criterion of walking into a place and not knowing what year it is.
