Thank you so much, David, for having me.
Well, you'll certainly find plenty of people who feel that manners have taken a bit of a back seat in recent years, whether it's being considerate in public spaces like you mentioned, or acknowledging the people around you.
There's a lot of people who feel like those little social niceties are becoming less common.
And it does depend on who you ask.
Um, there's a bit of this kids these days, a bit of a generational divide, with older people kind of pointing the finger at younger generations.
Like myself.
And I found out while doing that report this report.
So I went to Stony Batter and I spoke with people about whether they think that some of the traditional displays of politeness are now becoming a thing of the past.
Do you feel like Ireland has become less polite?
Have we lost our good manners?
Coming from somebody who's obviously a young man, what is it that prevents you from doing that?
Um from saying hi, hello or thank you or you're welcome?
Yes, um, and apart from the lack of basic pleasantries as those people mentioned, um a lot of people did talk about the lack of awareness, particularly when it comes to how loud people are in public spaces.
I'm sure you'd notice it when you're on public transport.
And it has extended to places where you'd hope that there would be a little bit more quietness and mindfulness, like saunas.
Um now a sauna is generally a place of peace and relaxation.
But some of those unwritten rules have now had to be written, such as being considerate for those around you.
And Ben Heather is one of the owners of Outcast Sauna, where they've introduced a code of conduct, so an actual poster for customers to read.
Is there a reason as to why you guys brought that?
Is it maybe that you had gone to other places or other establishments where you felt that having an etiquette code where people could see it is actually a good idea?
