I don't know if it's better, but I think it allows him to do both.
I think that in a Denard Wilson, John Harbaugh-style defense, I think it allows him to rotate into that, rotate out of that, do it pre-snap, do it post-snap, or just line up.
I think that the more you can do, the better.
I don't know that he's going to be full-time in any one spot because of his versatility, but I do think that everything you said about the advantages of playing him down low are certainly correct.
