But we've got to now seize this moment and develop a process, develop a way in which we can pause.

We asked one company to pause, then everyone else just catches up and maybe even surpasses them.

And they wouldn't be as ethical, and that wouldn't leave us in a good position.

Well, I think it's exactly what we should be talking about because we don't have enough guardrails around what is being developed, whether it be Antropic or the other companies.

We don't have enough visibility into what these machines are doing and why.

I just have to go technical just for one second.

There's a safety...

inside these machines and how they work there's a safety study called interpretability to interpret interpretability means that you actually can interpret what's going on and they examine it and they decide what what is it what they're doing now the reason why i say that because

Chris Olay is a pioneer of that specialty of safety.

Now, what that means that tells us this is that these machines don't operate the way older machines did.

Like the older algorithms, you just program it, you put in something, you got out exactly what you wanted.

Here in these, what they call artificial neural nets, don't work that way.

They put in something and they get out something that's not quite what they asked for.

But it's extraordinary and mysterious and somewhat unbelievably brilliant and a little bit disturbing that they can operate quite opaquely.

That concerns us.

And if we keep going this, we'll eventually have machines that have designed themselves and we won't know what they're doing and why they're doing this.

Well, no, there's not really.

I mean, I'm sure there are some people who say that, but most people I'm talking to don't believe any of that.

Like, I do think that they're creating something that they don't fully understand.
