Of course, everyone thinks they're doing it for the right reasons, right?

Everyone thinks they're, you know, they have good motivations.

You know, two things, as you're talking, Greg, I was thinking that I always go back to.

One, one of our Jesuit brothers, Bruce Morrill, said this once.

I think on my tertianship, we were together, and he said,

A God who doesn't judge is a God who doesn't care.

And God cares what we do, which I liked very much.

But then I also go back to God's mercy, you know, which is greater than we could ever imagine.

And you look at the prodigal son, you know, and the father just forgives him even before the son says anything.

So I'm very much, you know, on long lines of God's mercy.

And I think Pope Francis said recently that he feels that hell is probably empty.

The only people I think that are in hell, I mean, who knows, are people who reject God's mercy.

That's my understanding, that I would imagine, I mean, who knows, but that people who might be so arrogant or vain in the afterlife to say that I don't need it might still be stuck in hell.

in hell, but I would imagine eventually God's mercy overcomes all that too.

So I really do believe hell is empty.

That's how I see it.

I'm really curious what you say about the transformation that happens away from hate.

And you're describing it as, in a sense, a result of someone feeling cherished.

I'm also wondering, in your experience, does it also have to do with coming to know people who are previous objects of that hate?

You know, in my experience with LGBT people, there's a lot of hatred and homophobia, but once it's someone in their family and then it's a lot different.
