But then what they really wanted you to be was well-behaved.
When I was in public school, every morning you said the Pledge of Allegiance, you sang the National Anthem, you read the 23rd Psalm in the Bible, and you said the Lord's Prayer.
I had never heard these prayers, right?
These are Christian prayers.
So my mother stood behind me, and we had to say the Lord's Prayer.
And the first, and here's what she heard me say.
Our Father who art in heaven, Harold is his name.
So afterward, my mother said to me, Francie?
it is hallowed be thy name.
My mother knew the prayer, although she didn't teach it to us.
I said, no, it's Harold.
She goes, it's not Harold.
Wait, I said, yes, our father is, Harold is daddy's name.
She said, this is not about daddy.
Do you think the class is praying to daddy?
Now, by the way, I did because I worshiped my father.
So why not?
Of course the class will naturally be belonging to my father.
And so, like, I didn't understand that.
