My father said, Ruth.
The operator said, oh, that's Phil's daughter.
So my father then said to my mother, how small is this town that you live in?
And I don't know how long they knew each other.
Not very long when they got married.
Well, first of all, I thought they were movie stars, my parents.
I mean, they were both very good looking.
My mother... One thing that was like not a contention, but my mother loved to dance and she was a very good dancer.
My mother apparently as a child or as a young girl wanted to be a dancer.
My mother...
To watch a Fred Astaire movie with my mother, which we did frequently, would be for my mother to say 40 times, I would have been a better partner than Ginger Rogers.
And so she said she announced to her family, I'm going to be a dancer.
And her grandmother, who ruled the family, said, don't be ridiculous.
Only tramps are dancers.
oh so like to be in show business was really that was not their idea you know uh so she did not become a dancer but i would have to say she was regretted her whole life like you know people say well people like move on and yes she moved on obviously but i'm telling you like she was in pain watching a fred starr movie she was a very good dancer i don't know she's good as ginger rogers maybe you know uh my father was not that great a dancer and uh
like at weddings or parties and stuff like that.
She would dance with him, but she had a cousin who was a very good dancer, and mostly they would dance together.
And what did your father do after the war?
He went to art school.
And then his father, my grandfather, who was an upholsterer and had a little shop, had a heart attack.
