Every day you're waking up and you're looking at how much rain and how much wind and what's going to happen.

Is it going to be a frost?

It's really weird.

I just remember the conversations were constantly about seasons and planting and

producing and farming and suddenly you're in a city where the conversation's changed into this really different world and there was a lot going on in Auckland at the time and this was before the 80s crash and

I started really going, okay, I want more.

I want as much information in my world as possible.

And the first thing I did, actually, I went as an exchange student to Australia.

That was as far as I could afford to get as a family.

It was like everyone was off to these amazing adventures in Spain and Italy, and I was like, I'm going to Adelaide.

But anyhow, but it did make me realise that every time, if you left, because it was the first time I'd really left the country, and I would have been 16, and I was like, oh, this is just scratching the itch, I just need to go.

And so when I came back, so that was the year six, it was sixth form, so year 12.

I decided I'd always been working.

I'd worked after school my entire life.

So I'd had quite a good little nest egg.

I had a car.

I was like, I'm going.

I'm just going to go to Europe.

And London was the easiest place to go to because that was really the ticket to, you know, the Kiwis of OE's at the time.

So at 17, I did.
